Colorless permanents any deck can run — mana rocks, gear, and machines.
Artifacts represent objects rather than living things, so they are almost always colorless and castable in any deck. That flexibility makes them some of the most reprinted, format-defining cards in the game.
Kinds of artifact
- Mana rocks
- Tap for mana to ramp and fix colors, like Sol Ring and Signets.
- Equipment
- Attach to a creature to buff it; the gear stays when the creature dies.
- Vehicles
- Crew them with creatures to turn them into attackers.
- Artifact creatures
- Creatures that are also artifacts — golems, constructs, and Thopters.
